Research Study
For Pancreatic Cancer Patients
THE EFFECTS OF PREDNISONE, MONTELUKAST, CETIRIZINE, RANITIDINE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, MAGNESIUM, AND VERAPAMIL ON PANCREATIC ADENOCARCINOMA STAGE IV.
Dr. Nashed is conducting a research study which seeks to identify means of managing Stage IV Pancreatic cancer symptoms. If you have or know about someone who has pancreatic cancer that did not respond to chemotherapy AND cannot take another course of chemotherapy or does not want another course, and he/she is above 18 years of age but not pregnant, he/she is welcome to enroll in the study. Taking part in this study is entirely voluntary. You must sign a consent form before you participate. The first phase of the study will last for 8 weeks. The participants may continue the same study medications for one year overall.
This research study is being done to find out if certain combination of medications can help pancreatic cancer patients feel better with less pain and to obtain information on their effectiveness on the cancer. The medications are prednisone (steroids), Singulair® (allergy and asthma medicine), Zyrtec® (allergy medicine), Zantac® (stomach medicine), potassium phosphate and magnesium oxide (nutritional supplements), and Veralan (verapamil-a medication to control high blood pressure).
There will be no cost for the medications for the first 8 weeks of the study for the 10 patients who enroll. Thereafter, it will be you or your insurer’s responsibility. No experimental medications or chemotherapy will be included in the study.
